This is the question that decides which course you need, and a lot of people get it wrong.
Vehicle loading cranes are rated in metre tonnes — not tonnes. It’s a measure of lifting capacity at a given reach, and it determines your licensing requirement in Australia.
How to work it out:
Example: a knuckle boom lifting 5.2 tonnes at 3.1 metres = 16.12 metre tonnes.
Under 10 metre tonnes — this course (RIIHAN307E) is what you need.
10 metre tonnes or above — you need a CV High Risk Work Licence, which is a different and longer course.
